Latest Times of Israel Piece

Mike L.

Do the Palestinian-Arabs want a state for themselves in peace next to the Jewish one or not?
It is an obvious question, but the answer to this question determines how the Jewish people, both Israeli and diaspora, should proceed going forward. If the answer to this question is “yes” then Israel and the Jewish people should embrace the ongoing peace process. However, if the answer to this question is “no” then Israel and the Jewish people should reject the ongoing peace process because it cannot possibly lead to peace.
This is a very brief piece, but in my opinion it goes directly to the heart of the matter.

When the Jews established Israel what they wanted was autonomy for the Jewish people.

Is this what the Palestinian-Arabs actually want for themselves?

  1. Well, here are the words of the ever popular Angry Arab:

"We want peace but not with Israel: we want peace AFTER Israel."

I see similar sentiments among Arabs and Muslims (and even many leftists) all the time...from Jihadists to intellectuals and every thing in-between. So I'm gonna have to vote NO they don't. Certainly the historical facts tend to agree with me.

    1. Someone needs to alert John Kerry and Barack Obama because they don't seem to get it.

  2. Kerry and Obama are hapless victims of the idea of peace in a neighborhood where only one country wants peace-Israel. They are in good company of many like them who don't "get," the mindset of the other side. Of course they can't just give up can they? What they could do is speak the truth about it all; but that would upset the other side. And then they would be accused of not being "honest brokers." Oh wait, they already get accused of that. Never mind.....

  3. Rubin thinks peace is unlikely too:

"Islamist groups and governments, along with radical Arab nationalists, Iran, and others, are determined to prevent any resolution of the issue. Anything other than Israel’s extinction they hold to be treason. If—and this isn’t going to happen—Israel and the Palestinian Authority made a comprehensive peace treaty those forces would double and triple their efforts to subvert it.

The government of Palestine would face determined domestic opposition, including assassination attempts on the “traitors” who made peace. Palestinian factions would claim to be more militant than their rivals and would seek to use the new state as a basis for attacking Israel in order to prove their credentials and advance their political fortunes.

What would the government of Palestine do once cross-border attacks inevitably began against Israel? It is highly likely it would disclaim responsibility and say they cannot find those responsible or even proclaim that these people are heroes....."
